snow!!!

apparently mother nature was quite busy last night! we woke up to a snowy wonderland. above are a few shots of our back patio (can you spot the bbq?), Bisco (our frenchie) not knowing quite what to make of things, and a shot down Warren Street.

thursday already?

it's been a whirlwind of a week! i feel like I’ve been going a hundred miles an hour. today, however, there is some reprieve. presentations are over, and the snow is falling like beautiful fluffy cottonballs out my window. time to take a deep breath.

ahhhhhhh.

monday, monday

ho-hum. just waiting for my 9am presentation to start (it is 10:19). i wish i could "withdraw" from the presentation, like those olympians withdrew from the speed skating race when the ice wasn't ready on time. they were all warmed up and ready to go, and said the wait messed up their timing. i am feeling much the same way. i was psyched and ready at 8:45. now i am just ready for a nap... anyhoo- the awesome artwork above is by Yellena James. her Twine print and Flux print, respectively.

little black dress

i love this Dress by Alexander Wang. The racerback shape of the mesh is so fun. it says "i'm nude, but i know you can see me, so i am going to rock this sporty meets sexy look!"

marc!

i am a bit blown away by marc jacobs' fall collection! i LOVE the subtle neutrals, the gorgeous tailoring, the vintage feel of the proportionally over sized furs, and the extreme elegance of the dresses. it has been a while since i've wanted to own something from one of his runway shows. this time i want it all!!!

sigh

i just can't stop thinking about McQueen. i have been scrolling through his spring line again. it is just amazing. such a complete vision, from the prints to the shoes, and the silhouettes to the hair, he created a whole world on that runway.
then i remembered one of my favorite McQueen pieces- the rib suitcase from Samsonite black label. maybe it is that little inner goth, the same one that makes me such a Tim Burton fan, but I LOVE this suitcase. he really was a artist.

Alexander McQueen

i am so sad. WWD just sent an alert email that Alexander McQueen has committed suicide. he truly was a fashion protege, and one of the few designers whose collections i always eagerly looked forward to seeing.

vintage goodies at Carole Tanenbaum

what an amazing source of vintage jewelry, via Daily Candy. if you have some money to burn, do it at Carole Tanenbaum- it’s recycling people! (1. gold wire necklace, 2. beetle brooch by Kenneth Lane, 3. victorian pave haircomb, 4. art deco dress clip set, 5. jadite ring by Panetta)

mara hoffman

so fun! from Mara Hoffman's resort collection. i usually love her for her prints, but this is such a fun take on bright colors and neutrals.

the hump

my husband said something profound yesterday as we were walking through the bitter cold dark at 6:00pm heading towards a superbowl get together. we were discussing winter, and how it is so hard to get motivated to do anything. leaving the house requires an absurd amount of bundling, wrapping, strapping and covering (and still your nose gets froze). and the fact that it gets dark before you leave work just makes you want to crawl into bed at what, during the summer, would just be the start of a lovely evening. but he said "i like to make myself do things, to push over the hump, rather than the hump pushing me over." good plan boo. Julia Rothman

i LOVE Julia Rothman. i wish she would release more of this Fork print. there are some good fork stories at my in-laws house, and this would make such a great gift...

what your wedding day should feel like...

Wendy Mink

i have loved Wendy Mink's jewelry ever since my sis-in-law introduced me... maybe 8 years ago? wow. anyway, i love these whimisical gold birdcage earrings. only $50, and 100% of the proceeds go to the Red Cross Haiti fund! what's better than that? get them here.

latest obsession at the office

my friend and co-worker bought this gorgeous braided chain headband from Maison Michel. it has become a serious obsession at our office. after all trying it on, we have been out looking for the less expensive version so we, too, can rock this look. as my other friend said "this is the greatest advance in hair-doing since... well, a long time" it is so simple to use, for those with long hair, and the result is enchanting in a fairytale way.

above, on our red headed friend you can see the original version. and on our dark haired beauty, the budget version... we got it on sale at Free People, and although this particular one is gone, there are some other great headbands there! the trick is all in how you wear it :)

thou shalt not...

my friend at work has these earrings and i covet them every time she wears them (she is wearing them today!). i may need a pair of my own... from eninaj on Etsy.

lydia

what a fantastic dress. ethereal and delicate, but a little dark-side. if Tim Burton did a version of Cinderella, she would wear this to the ball... (from Bergdorf Goodman)
