valentine's

i love valentine's day. growing up, it was always my mom's favorite holiday. we would cut and paste our own valentines, there were always lots of hearts and chocolate, and usually a new pair of cute undies. valentine's were for all our friends, and it never felt like a couples only holiday to me. now, my favorite part of valentine's is the card. i love cards, and have been known to give my husband 2 (or 3 or 4) for any given occasion. sometimes there are too many cute ones to pass up! etsy is, of course, the best place to go online for a variety of unique, creative valentines. a few of my favorites are above. print

i love this Olden Days Skyscrapers print by Janice Jong. i found it today when i was at Little Paper Planes looking for another print that i have been wanting to buy. this other print is of brooklyn, and is a bit abstract with a part of the bridge, a storefront and a cat in the window. i didn't see it there today, though i swear they used to have it, and i don't remember the artists name. it is making me crazy! why didn't i just buy it when i first fell in love! *sigh* the search continues...

coooookie

i had been craving a good chocolate chip cookie for days, you know the kind that is warm, a little crispy, but mostly chewy, and tastes of vanilla with that tinge of salt and big chunks of good dark melty chocolate? yum. so yesterday m took me to Baked after our sunday grocery shopping trip. that cookie was IT. i am ready for another...

moss house

wow. this is incredible. oki sato's moss house, via design*sponge (my all time favorite blogger, i have been following her since day 1!):
Veins of moss pattern the riverbank outside the windows, so we used similar veins of dry moss on the interior walls to subtly connect existing spaces with newly-renovated ones, and the house’s interior environment to its exterior one. Most wallpaper imitates nature through a two-dimensional representation of it, and cladding the walls entirely in moss would simply have been too much. We wanted something in-between, so we applied the moss in a pattern that looked like wallpaper, creating an ambiguous texture that’s neither artificial nor natural.

vena cava

my good friend is getting married this fall. she is not doing the big white wedding, and instead of a traditional dress she wants 2 fantastic outfits. one for the ceremony, and one for the big party the next day. i have been sending her some designer collages so she can start to consider what those fabulous looks will be. personally i am voting vena cava for the party. she just has that look, you know? like you are really living it up at some extravagant underground club during prohibition. what era had better parties than the 1920's?!

Back to work!

I am so happy to be back in the world of the living. M dropped me at my office today, to make sure I got in all right, and is meeting me again for the subway home. What an ordeal! I feel so super thankful today. Thankful for M and his patience with me, thankful for my health returning, and for the beautiful blue-skied day that has developed out my window. I am also thankful for my new necklace! I ordered the above necklace from Islamoon on etsy, and received it last week. It was the perfect pick-me-up for a very blah week. It is so beautiful and delicate. The perfect everyday necklace. Thanks Islamoon!

vertigo

i have been so sick all week. i think this is the first time in my professional life that i have missed a full week of work. i have had a severe case of vertigo- something i have never experienced before and hope never to again. i am resting now, regaining my balance and my strength. my friends and family have been amazing, m most of all. it is time to get back to thinking about happy, beautiful things!

dream home

welcome to my dream home. i have been coveting this house by architect Andrew Berman, that is set on a rooftop in lower manhattan, for a few years now. an excerpt from the architects website:

“…views of midtown to the north, the financial district to the south, and the police building dome to the west. From the penthouse or exterior gardens one has the surreal sensation of being on an urban mesa, looking out to distant formations. The roof of the penthouse is planted with native grasses and wildflowers, and is home to a bee colony. The roof level has a kitchen garden, trees and lawn. The lower level courtyard serves as a winter greenhouse for citrus trees and flowers…”

And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that have never been. - Rainer Maria Rilke

happy new year

i have had this little nook reserved for so long, about time i began to explore it! cheers to the new year- to happiness, health, and being inspired. may i post only items that make me smile and flood me with creative possibility. may i feather this nook with ideas, thoughts and visions, both familiar and new, that make me want to visit everyday.
